Born in 1965 in Montreal, Canada, Pierre Mercier executes his first paintings in 2004 and initiates art studies in 2010 at Bishop University. After a career as a chemical engineer of more than 25 years, dedicated primarily to the protection of the environment, he began, in 2016, a career as an artist in Berlin.
He considers that in a world that subjects humans to an increasingly accelerated flow of pixels, paintings and sculptures provide a pause for the viewer, propitious to observation, analysis, interpretation, and criticism. In other words, a moment that allows the spectators to detach themselves from reality and gives free rein to their imagination.
Under this perspective, the freedom offered by painting in relation to the imitation of reality inspires him in the creation of compositions and environments open to interpretation. Moreover, he strives to combine various forms, colours, textures, and techniques in order to create harmonious spaces favouring the contribution of the spectator's imagination.
